HILO, Hawai'i – It was lucky seven's all around as the nationally-ranked No. 7 Hawai'i Hilo women's soccer team notched its seventh win and closed its first home stand strong with a 7-0 victory over Academy of Art Saturday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play at the Vulcan Soccer Field.
The Vulcans got on the scoreboard in the seventh minute on a 75-foot goal from Jodi Lillie (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani HS).
Hawai'i Hilo totaled 29 shots, 14 on goal, while ART U took just one.
Daelenn Tokunaga (Waipahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City HS), Adree Johnson (Huntsville, Utah/Weber HS), Brende Yoshizumi (Kapolei, Hawai'i/Kamehameha Schools Kapalama) and Nanea Wall (Kealakekua, Hawai'i/Konawaena HS) also netted goals in the first half as Annie Haglund (Horby, Sweden/Polhemskolan) and Keely Rooker (Portland, Ore./Westview HS) scored in the closing minutes of the game.
Grace VerHage (Otsego, Mich./Otsego HS), Jordan Parrish (Hawthorne, Calif./Bishop Montgomery HS), Zariah Nogales (Placentia, Calif./Mater Dei HS) and Wall also recorded assists on UH Hilo's scores.
Lolo Retsky (Calabasas, Calif./Sierra Canyon School) started in goal for the Vulcans and improved her record to 7-0-1 with a share of a team shutout as Viviana Poli (Ontario, Calif./South Hills HS) made her first appearance of the season to play the entire second half.
What's Next
Hawai'i Hilo improved to 7-0-1 overall, 2-0-0 PacWest while Academy of Art fell to 0-2-0 in the conference (0-10-0 overall).
The Vulcans will take a two-game interisland slate against Chaminade (2-0 PacWest) and Hawai'i Pacific (1-0-1 PacWest) next weekend on O'ahu.
UH Hilo will then return to the Vulcan Soccer Field for its final two home matches of the season. on Oct. 15 against Fresno Pacific and Oct. 18 against Holy Names.
The Urban Knights return to San Francisco to host Biola next Thursday.
