HILO, Hawai'i–After winning an exhilarating first game, Dominican came back to win the second part of Monday's PacWest Conference doubleheader 4-3 at the UHH Softball Field.
The Penguins split the series, improving 10-19 overall and 7-13 in the PacWest Conference, while the Vulcans fell 10-6 and 8-4 in the PacWest.
UH Hilo put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning when
Jayda Favela stole home on a passed ball (1-0). Dominican answered back the next inning, posting up two runs (2-1). In the third inning DU added an insurance run that put them up 3-1.
UHH cut the lead in the bottom of the third. A base hit by
Chloe Domingo left the Vulcans chasing one run (3-2).
A fifth-inning bomb by
Skylar Thomas leveled the score for the Vulcans, but a unmatched seventh-inning Penguin run left Dominican victorious (4-3).
Sara Bhatt began the game in the circle for the Red and Black and was relieved by
Malia Risdall and
Tehani Seto. Risdall entered in the second inning and threw until the top of the seventh where she was replaced by Seto.
The Vulcans play next on the road against Azusa Pacific at the Cougar Softball Complex. Game times are set for 1 and 3pm HST on Monday (Mar. 21) and Tuesday (Mar. 22).
