HILO, Hawai'i–The UH Hilo softball team lost the pitching duel against Dominican in the third game of the series, with the Penguins taking the 1-0 win in the tenth inning.
Alexis Lacy, PacWest Pitcher of the Week, threw an incredible game against Dominican. She had a no-hitter for the first seven innings, just one batter shy from a perfect game (she hit the lead-off batter in the third inning).
Despite the one batter who was allowed on base, Lacy pitched to the bare minimum of batters in the first seven innings. The Freshman faced just 21 batters because the batter who got hit ended up being called out on a double play.
Dominican got their first two hits of the game in the eighth inning, but the Penguins didn't score until the tenth. The international tiebreaker rule came into play and DU scored their one run off a sacrifice fly (1-0).
The Vulcans had a chance to come back, but were unable to crack DU's hurler Shelby Keltner. Keltner (DU) only allowed three hits and not a single extra-base hit while striking out seven Vulcans in the 10-inning duel.
UHH's three hits were by Jayda Favela, Brandee Chinen, and Chloe Domingo.
The second game of Monday's doubleheader is happening now.
