SAN DIEGO, California – The Hawai'i Hilo men's basketball team concluded the regular season with an 87-66 loss to No. 6 Point Loma Nazarene Thursday evening in Pacific West Conference play at the Golden Gymnasium.
The Vulcans held the lead through the early portion of the opening period, but the Sea Lions quickly flipped the script with seven 3-pointers through the rest of the half to take a 14-point lead into the intermission.
PLNU splashed six more shots from beyond the arc the rest of the way as it maintained control for the win to finish the regular season unbeaten at 20-0.
With the loss, the seeding for the postseason conference tournament are now set: No. 1 PLNU, No. 2 Azusa Pacific, No. 3 Academy of Art, No. 4 Hawai'i Hilo, No. 5 Biola and No. 6 Chaminade.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones led as the only Vulcan to finish with double-digit scoring figures, totaling 15 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double.
- Hawai'i Hilo shot 15 of 22 (68.2 percent) at the free throw line while PLNU was 10 of 13 (76.9 percent).
- From beyond the arc, Point Loma finished 13 of 29 (44.8 percent) while the Vulcans shot 5 of 18 (27.8 percent).
- Kaden Anderson led the Sea Lions with 31 points and 11 rebounds while hitting four 3-pointers.
- Brian Goracke followed with 17 points, Tobin Kariberg with 13 (three 3-pointers), Jake LIfgren with 12 (four 3-pointers) and Luke Haupt with 10.
WHAT'S NEXT — PACWEST CHAMPIONSHIPS
Hawai'i Hilo finishes the regular season at 13-7 PacWest (17-8 overall) while PLNU moved to a 20-0 record (25-3 overall).
The six-team PacWest Championships postseason tournament is set for March 2-4 at Chaminade University of Honolulu. Joining the Vulcans will be PLNU, Azusa Pacific, Academy of Art, Biola and Chaminade.
The Vulcans will be seeded fourth and will take on fifth-seeded Biola on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. The winner of that matchup will take on first-seeded PLNU in Friday's first semifinal round game with a 7:15 p.m. tip-off.

In the latest NCAA Division II men's basketball regional rankings released, Hawai'i came in at No. 8 in the West Region.
In addition to the three conference champions out of the PacWest, Great Northwest Athletic Conference and the California Collegiate Athletic Association, five other teams will qualify for the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship West Regional based on these rankings in order.
