Women's Tennis Enjoys Double Sweep of Chaminade

Hawai‘i Hilo played its first matches of the season at home in a two-win sweeping effort of the Silverswords.

HILO, Hawai'i – In the first home matches of the season, the Hawai'i Hilo women's tennis team enjoyed a doubleheader sweep of Chaminade, taking both wins by scores of 7-0 Saturday afternoon on the UHH Tennis Courts.

Hikari Osaki and McKenna Mountain each notched their team-leading eighth singles wins of the season.

In doubles, Lehua Jordan and Mountain earned their first wins of the season as a pair with two 6-0 victories. Both duos of Akari Ichikawa and Julia Barden, and Nanami Okamoto and Osaki teamed together for the first time this spring with both pairs also taking two wins apiece.

WHAT'S NEXT

Hawai'i Hilo improved to 6-7 overall while Chaminade moved to an 0-11 record.

The Vulcans will be right back in action Sunday afternoon to take on No. 10 HPU (9-7 overall) starting at noon on the UHH Tennis Courts.

Hawai'i Hilo will then conclude its regular season on the road in Colorado with matchups against Colorado Mesa, Metro State Denver and CSU Pueblo April 7–9.

The PacWest Championships are set for April 19–22 in Surprise, Arizona.

THE DISTINGUISHED DOZEN

The first PacWest Championships tennis rankings were released this past Wednesday with the Vulcans coming in at No. 9.

These rankings, voted on by a committee, will determine the top 12 teams that will qualify for the postseason tournament later this month.

Two more iterations of the weekly rankings will be released in the coming weeks.
