DENVER, Colorado – The Hawai'i Hilo women's tennis team continued its winning ways as it went 2-1 over the weekend with victories over Colorado Mesa (4-3) and Colorado State Pueblo (7-0) at Metro State Denver's Assembly Athletic Complex.
It was a tough weekend but the Vulcans got off on a good start with a narrow 4-3 win over CMU as Casydee De Mattos clinched the deciding point with a 6-2, 6-3 singles win on court six.
Hawai'i Hilo followed with a tough 4-3 to Metro State Denver Sunday morning, but rallied with an afternoon doubleheader for a 7-0 victory over under-manned CSU Pueblo.
McKenna Mountain enjoyed a 6-0 weekend winning all three No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles matches with partner Lehua Jordan, who went 4-0 a win by default in her lone singles match of the weekend.
Hikari Osaki went undefeated at the No. 4 singles spot.
WHAT'S NEXT
Hawai'i Hilo improved to 8-8 overall while Colorado Mesa moved to a 10-11 record. Metro State Denver improved to 13-6 as Colorado State Pueblo remained winless at 0-10.
Although the regular season is wrapped up, the Vulcans will celebrate Senior Day next Friday, April 14, with the Hawai'i Hilo men's tennis team's home match against HPU on the UHH Tennis Courts.
The PacWest Championships are set for April 19–22 in Surprise, Arizona. Hawai'i Hilo came in at No. 10 in the penultimate conference tennis rankings released last week. The top 12 teams will qualify for the postseason event with the final poll released Monday afternoon.
