COSTA MESA, California – No. 19 Hawai'i Hilo Women's Soccer started its four-game road trip with a scoreless draw to Vanguard Saturday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play at VU Soccer Field.
The Vulcans took 12 shot attempts with five on goal but just couldn't get one through the posts. The Lions totaled just six shots with two on goal. Neither team had a shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes and tallied just two shots each.
As one of three remaining unbeaten teams in PacWest play, the Vulcans come away unharmed by the result and sits at No. 2 in the standings with 16 points. No. 24 Point Loma (6-1-0) is at the top with Westmont (5-1-0) right behind in third. The two other unbeatens, No. 5 Concordia (4-0-1) and Chaminade (4-0-1), follow in a tie for fourth place.

- Goalkeeper Phoebe Barnes was credited with two saves in the Vulcans' ninth shutout of the season and the ninth shutout of her career as a Vulcan, moving past Shanna Brown (08-09) to No. 3 all-time in program history. Bailey Cahill (18-19) sits ahead with one shutout while Jenna Hufford (13-16) is the all-time leader with 21. Barnes has 20 overall career shutouts, including 13 from her first two seasons with Sonoma State.
- Barnes also moved into a three-way tie for most shutouts in a season with six, tying Brown (2009) and Lolo Retsky (2022).

No. 19 Hawai'i Hilo moved to a 5-0-1 record in the PacWest (8-0-3 overall) as Vanguard moved to a 1-4-1 conference record (2-7-1 overall).
The Vulcans continue through Southern California to take on Azusa Pacific (Oct. 21), Biola (Oct. 24) and Westmont (Oct. 26). Hawai'i Hilo will return for a two-game home stand to close the regular season, hosting Fresno Pacific (Nov. 2) and Chaminade (Nov. 9).
The top four teams in the regular season standings will qualify for the inaugural PacWest Conference Championships set for Nov. 14-16 at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California.

In the United Soccer Coaches Division II Rankings released Tuesday morning, Hawai'i Hilo came in at No. 19 in the Top 25 Week 6 Poll, moving up four spots from the previous week.
The Vulcans also moved up one spot to No. 3 in the West Regional poll.
