LANGLEY, Canada – Nadjrick Peat notched his eighth career double-double with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Hawai'i Hilo Men's Basketball to a season-opening 67-60 victory over Simon Fraser Friday evening as part of the CCA Canadian Tip-Off Classic at the Langley Events Centre.
The senior also racked up six blocks, matching a single-game program record set by Tre Johnson in 2015 against Fresno Pacific. Peat went 7 of 9 from the field to lead all scorers. Brody Davis followed with 13 points and Julio Montes II added 12 off the bench.
Hawai'i Hilo closed the final three minutes of the opening half on a 11-2 run and followed up with an 8-0 scoring streak out of the break — which was a showcase of dunks, including back-to-back and-1 breakaway slams by Brody Davis. The Vulcans surged for as large of a lead as 18 points midway through the second half, but Simon Fraser managed to rally for a 14-0 run. Holding onto just a four-point lead with time waning, Hawai'i Hilo responded with an 8-0 run to jump back further out front.

The Vulcans committed just 10 turnovers to 19 by the Red Leaf. Andre Norris was credited with four steals.
Hawai'i Hilo starts the season at 1-0 while Simon Fraser moves to an 0-1 record.
