BILLINGS, Montana – Hawai'i Hilo Men's Basketball closed its season-opening six-game road trip with a loss to Montana State Billings, 60-48, Saturday evening at the Alterowitz Gymnasium as part of the PacWest-GNAC Crossover.
The Vulcans shot just 27.3 percent from the field, going 4 of 26 from beyond the arc for their highest number of three-point attempts so far this season. They also went 50 percent at the free throw line on 8-of-16 attempts.
Montana State Billings managed to finish with a slight edge in its shooting numbers, going 21 of 48 (.438) from the field with seven 3-pointers. The Yellowjackets jumped out ahead early at 21-12 through the first 10 minutes of action.
Hawai'i Hilo dominated at the board, finishing with a 50-33 rebound advantage including an astounding 25-9 edge in offensive boards. Although the Vulcans converted for 21 second-chance points (MSUB had just three), it was at only a 52 percent conversion rate (13 of 25).
Brody Davis led with 12 points followed by nine from Nadjrick Peat and eight from Julio Montes II. Both Davis and Peat totaled nine rebounds.
