SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA – The Hawai'i Hilo Women's Tennis team opened its week of competition at 1-2 after narrowly falling to Biola, 4-3, before trading 6-1 scores in a win over Colorado Mesa and a loss to No. 20 Azusa Pacific.

Hikari Osaki has gone 4-2 through the three matches with a pair of singles wins at the No. 4 spot and a pair of doubles wins with Satoho Toriumi on Court 2.

Hawai'i Hilo opened the week by taking the doubles point from Biola on Monday before narrowly falling in the deciding No. 5 singles match. Three lightning delays disrupted the match as Julia Barden fell to Alexandria Mann, 7-5, in Set 3.

The following day, the Vulcans swept the singles matches for a 6-1 victory over Colorado Mesa.

Against the 20th-ranked Cougars, three of the singles matches went to three sets as the Vulcans just barely fell behind in each loss. Nanami Okamoto was the only one to claim victory with a 10-8 score in the deciding set on Court 2.

UP NEXT

Hawai'i Hilo moved to a 6-4 record while Biola moved to 11-4, Colorado Mesa to 9-9 and Azusa Pacific to 14-1.

The Vulcans have three more matches to wrap the week up with No. 45 Concordia University Irvine (March 22), Westmont (March 23) and No. 17 Point Loma (March 25).

Hawai'i Hilo will then host Chaminade for two matches on March 31 before closing out with HPU, April 6-7, at the UHH Tennis Courts.

Pacific West Conference Championship is set for April 17-20 at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Arizona.
