HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Women's Basketball closed out the calendar year with a home victory over Chaminade, 75-61, Saturday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
A 10-2 run through the first half of the second quarter helped extend a Vulcans one-point lead into a 28-19 advantage. Hawai'i Hilo kept pace, but the start of the third quarter was Chaminade's moment as it managed to muster a 10-4 scoring spurt to bring the game back to a four-point margin.
Tavina Harris responded with nine of her team-high 15 points (6-8 FG) through the rest of the third quarter to help put the Vulcans up by double digits entering the final 10 minutes — which the home team would not relinquish as it secured its first victory of the conference season.
