In April 2010, David Kaneshiro was announced as the Hawai‘i Hilo women's basketball program's first full-time head coach.

In 2016, the Vulcans were presented with the Organization of the Year Award, presented by the Special Olympics State Board of Hawai‘i.

2021-22 (13th Season): Earned a big non-conference win with a 76-73 overtime victory over then-ranked No. 5 Alaska Anchorage (Dec. 19). Started PacWest play at 4-1 and finished the season winning four of the last five games to earn a No. 6 seed in the PacWest Championships where they fell to eventual runner-up Academy of Art. Had one player named a First Team All-PacWest selection as Kaneshiro was selected PacWest Coach of the Year.
