LIVERMORE, California – UH Hilo's men's golf team slipped back a half dozen spots on the final day of the NNU Nighthawks Invitational on Tuesday at the Poppy Ridge Golf Course.
The Vulcans finished the northern California tournament in 14th place at +44 over par. They turned in a scorecard of 308 on Monday and 312 on Tuesday.
Andrew Otani was UHH's top scorer with a 76-77 (+9) tally for the 36 holes. He tied for 39th overall. Nicholas Gomez tied for 50th (76-80), Dustin Franko tied for 55th (76-81), Keith Ng was 60th (82-76) and Noah Lau tied for 66th (80-79).
Cal State East Bay won the team title at +7, Cal State San Bernardino was next (+11) and Montana State Billings was third (+12). Hawai`i Pacific was one of four teams tied for fourth with an even par score.
HPU's Keita Okada was the tournament medalist after firing a pair of 69's to finish at -6 for the tournament. Fraser Owenson of Cal State East Bay was second at -3 (72-69). There is a four-way tie for third.
Next action for the Vulcans is March 24-26 at Stanford's The Goodwin tournament.
