Through the first half, the University of Hawaii at Hilo stayed with 13
th-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills. Then the tide turned as the Vulcans fell
4-0 in the NCAA Division II West Region match.
The Vulcans are 5-6-2 while the Toros are 11-4-2.
"They are a good team," said UHH head coach Bryan Green.
Matching up in the first half, the Vulcans allowed just a penalty kick goal. But that goal took three tries. On the first attempt, Vulcan goalie Dane Kaylor got a solid hit on the kick and sent it back onto the field but Kaylor was called for leaving his spot early. The next attempt got by Kaylor but the Toros' Jordan Rover was tagged with a yellow card for entering the box early. On the third try, Kaylor's dive at the ball was a few milliseconds late as the ball rolled just out of his reach into the right corner.
