First day 296 has Vulcans in 7th place at Burns Intercollegiate

The University of Hawaii at Hilo is in 7th place after the first day of the John Burns Intercollegiate on the Turtle Bay Resort's Arnold Palmer Course in Kahuku, HI.
 
The Vulcans turned in a 296 to check into the club house at 8-over-par. Defending champion California has a 3-stroke lead with a 4-under-par 284. They are followed by New Mexico (287), Colorado State, Arizona and BYU (292), Texas A&M (294), Hawaii Hilo (296), UTEP and Hawaii (302), UNLV (303), Washington State (305), Nevada and Hawaii-B (309), Denver (310), Utah (312) and BYU-Hawaii (319).
 
Dalen Yamauchi leads the Vulcans an even-par 72 and tied for 10th place. Tied for 23rd place is Jamie Hall at 2-over-par 74. A stroke back are Corey Kozuma and Kyeton Littel (T29, 75) while Chris Shimomura carded a 5-over-par 77 and is tied for 48th place.
 
Four UH Hilo players are competing as individuals. Included in the tournament are Ric Yamamoto (T68, 80), Jay Heglund  (82nd,82), Christian Agosto (T83, 83) and James Horton (T86, 84).
 
California's Joel Stalter turned in a 5-under-par 67 to hold a one stroke lead on the field.
