WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – UH Hilo's Keith Ng shot a final round 68 to help his Vulcan team finish sixth at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate men's golf tournament at the Waikoloa Beach Course.
Ng had the third lowest score of the day to climb into a tie for eighth with an overall score of +1 (71-72-68). As a team, the Vulcans had a team tally of 288 on Wednesday for an overall three-day score of +34. They climbed three total spots in the 12-team standings from the first day.
Other Vulcan scores on Wednesday--Dustin Franko (72), Andrew Otani (72), Noah Lau (77), Nicholas Gomez (76), Junghwan Lee (79) and Ethan Hironaga (75). Franko finished in a tie for 13th in the medalist count and Otani was 32nd.
Colorado Christian won the team title by 10 strokes, finishing one-under par (282-269-288). Western New Mexico was second (+9) and Cal State San Bernardino finished a distant third (+17). Simon Fraser was fourth (+21) and Hawaii Pacific (+29) was five shots in front of UH Hilo in fifth.
CCU's Cam Sandland shot an even-par 70 on the final day to win the tournament by three strokes (72-61-70) at -7. Cal State San Bernardino's Brian Nielsen was second (-4) and HPU's Keita Okada moved up the ladder to third with a 69 on the final day (-3), tied with Simon Fraser's Bailey Bjornson.
The Dennis Rose closes out UH Hilo's Fall season. Next action for the Vulcans will be the Amer Ari Intercollegiate on February 3-5 at the Hapuna Golf Club.
