Women's Volleyball Season Comes to a Close at FPU

Vulcans fell to Fresno Pacific in straight sets to finish up the 2022 season.

FRESNO, California – The Hawai'i Hilo women's volleyball team had its two-game win streak snapped as it closed the 2022 season Wednesday evening with a 3-0 loss to Fresno Pacific in Pacific West Conference play at the Special Events Center.

With the exception of digs, the Sunbirds nearly doubled up the Vulcans in the team-stats numbers as FPU won by set scores of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-16.

Hawai'i Hilo was coming off back-to-back four-set victories over Dominican and Academy of Art.

By The Numbers

  • Senior Cara Bolte (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Maryknoll School) led Hawai'i Hilo with six kills in her final match.
  • Kendall Kott (Shingle Springs, California/Ponderosa HS) nabbed two kills and a dig as she will finish her career with the all-time program record of 2,835 total assists. She also finishes with 704 total digs to place No. 10 in the school's career rankings.
  • Tani Hoke (Kailua, Hawai'i/Maryknoll School) totaled 10 digs to finish 2022 with double-digit figures in all but just six matches. The junior earlier surpassed 1,000 in her career as she racked up 419 this season to now sit at No. 4 in the all-time program record books with 1,173 total digs.
  • Junior Samara Cruz (Escondido, California/Escondido HS) had four kills and four digs to bring her career numbers to just three and 10 shy of reaching the half-century mark in both respective statistical categories.
  • Emerson Reinke (Arvada, Colorado/Ralston Valley HS) dished out 16 digs to close her freshman season with 840 total.

What's Next

Hawai'i Hilo finishes the season at 4-22 overall, 4-16 PacWest as Fresno Pacific improved to 15-4 in the PacWest (16-8 overall).

The Sunbirds will host PacWest Champions Chaminade Saturday, Nov. 12 to wrap up their regular season.

FPU currently sits at No. 2 in the PacWest standings but was outside the top 10 of this past week's NCAA West Regional rankings.
