No. 11: Koop Channels His Inner Kobe for OT Winner

Over the course of the next month+, we will take a look back at the top games of 2019-20--hereafter referred to as 20 for 2020. The top 20 was selected by an esteemed panel of experts, so don't @me if you disagree. :)

On January 27 at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium, Vulcan senior Kupaa Harrison helped bury an old nemesis and made a lifetime memory at the same time. On this Monday, with the basketball world still reeling from the tragic death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant just 24 hours earlier, Harrison drained a three-pointer with one second left on the clock in overtime to defeat Holy Names, 79-76. Bryant was Harrison's hero and was the reason that he was wearing the number 24 on his Vulcan jersey. Much like Kobe had done countless times in his career, Harrison hit the game-winner and in the process got a monkey of the collective backs of the Vulcans. In 2018-19, Holy Names had beaten the Vulcans twice, in essence knocking UH Hilo out of postseason play.
